Joseph E. Solomon, Chief,Methuen Police Department Chief Solomon has served the Methuen Police Department for 33 years. Chief Solomon has held every civil service rank in the Methuen Police Department and was promoted through the ranks and in 2002 he was appointed to his current position of police chief. The Methuen Police Department is comprised of 94 fulltime sworn officers, 43 part-time sworn officers and 18 civilians. The city of Methuen has 49,120 residents and 23 square miles.

During his career Chief Solomon has commanded the community policing bureau, the neighborhood services bureau, the marine unit, the sexual assault investigative unit, the motor cycle unit, the accident investigation and reconstruction unit, and has held various other positions and assignments. Chief Solomon has been a leader in the area of law enforcement safety technology. He was a member of the research and development team that designed and implemented the first indoor automated shot detection alert system.

Chief Solomon has a Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College and a Bachelorʼs of Science degree in Business Management in Accounting from University of Lowell. Chief Solomon is a national lecturer and trainer in the areas of risk management, crisis response, personal safety, school safety, crisis intervention, situational awareness, and technology in Law Enforcement. He is born and raised in Methuen, Massachusetts.
